Matt has a broad range of experience in contentious and non-contentious aspects of town and country planning for clients in the commercial, industrial, and residential sectors. As well as negotiating planning and highways agreements in relation to large scale, complex and phased developments, he regularly advises on planning application submissions, environmental impact assessment, use classes, permitted development rights, and stopping up orders. Matt’s contentious experience includes acting on a variety of planning appeals (including those recovered by the Secretary of State), enforcement matters, and claims for judicial and statutory review.
Matt also has significant experience of infrastructure planning having advised applicants, local authorities and The Crown Estate in relation to applications for development consent under the NSIP regime. This includes advising an applicant on its successful application for development consent throughout the pre-submission, submission, and examination phases.
Matt joined Town in 2024 from Clyde & Co LLP, having qualified into its planning team in 2021.
